Summary of work
Dermatologists use the PASI scoring system (PASI) to aid diagnosis and treatment decisions in the management of psoriasis. The established norm is to calculate the PASI score by inputting % coverage, redness, thickness and scaling, either on paper or using an online calculator.
We conducted interviews with dermatologists to identify challenges they face in the management of psoriasis establishing that the current process can be challenging for less experienced Dermatologists, potentially leading to inaccurate PASI scores which can impact patient care.
Our objective was to develop a new tool to support HCPs in the accurate measurement of PASI. In particular, we wanted to help more inexperienced HCPs to correctly establish the % coverage and psoriasis intensity. Our solution is a step change in PASI calculation. The online tool we developed (DermaPro) allows HCPs to “paint” onto a 3D model the areas covered in psoriasis and consult a visual guide to grade the intensity. The tool then calculates the PASI score from the inputted data.
The results from the first 12 months demonstrate that it is making a positive impact with over 1,600 scores recorded, over 500 active users and more than 460 results exported to add to patient’s records.

The presentation from Prime Global was very clear and nicely done. It really elaborated on their original entry and provided additional information on the unmet need and the outcomes. The judges particularly liked that this is now being expanded beyond psoriasis to apply to other therapy areas.
