Let Us LEAP: Listening, Engaging and Acting with and for Patients

by Mearns & Pike on behalf of UCB

Summary of work

Let Us LEAP is a three-year, company-wide behaviour-change programme, intended to move UCB from somewhat fragmented patient engagement to systematic patient engagement which is embedded from early research to post-launch. Year one of this ambitious initiative focussed on ‘moving the needle’ from awareness of what patient engagement is, to deep comprehension of its value to patients, to society and to UCB. Through a range of interventions from a simple screensaver to a patient engagement experience using gamification to trigger a mindset shift, Let Us LEAP delivered real results in its first year. Engagement with Let Us LEAP content has been high, engagement from across the organization has been excellent and the learnings generated have been used to fuel an insight-driven plan for year two. Most impressive of all though, is evidence suggesting that in year one, Let Us LEAP is already beginning to drive changes in behaviour as well as mindset, with concrete examples of people committing to actions that will embed patient engagement strategically and operationally across the organisation.

Judges’ comments

Mearns & Pike and UCB did something a bit different with this campaign. It was an evidence-based programme and the game was a good experience for all those who took part. It had a strong link to sustainability and the judges really liked that they talked about the “a-ha” moment.
