The CML Quality of Life Tracker

by Inizio Evoke Comms for Novartis

Summary of work

For people living with chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML), the realities of fatigue, emotional burden and disrupted daily activities can go unnoticed in routine care. Existing Quality of Life (QoL) tools are often lengthy, clinical and rarely used in consultations, leaving patients without an easy way to express what truly affects their lives, and clinicians without the insights needed to tailor decisions. The CML QoL Tracker was created to close this gap. Co‑developed with global patient advocates and leading clinicians, it translates complex QoL science into an intuitive digital experience helping patients reflect on their wellbeing and articulate what matters most in their appointments. A rigorous evidence review distilled 767 validated QoL items into a concise, patient-friendly set of questions, delivered through a simple three-layer structure – Life Impact AssessmentBody Impact Mapping and Symptom Identification. Every element was informed by lived experience and clinical expertise to ensure relevance and accessibility. Launched globally in September 2025 and localised across six regions, the Tracker has shown strong early engagement, with 648 completions in the first three months, one third of which prompted a request for clinical follow up. Early results indicate its potential to strengthen patient-doctor communication and shared decision-making in CML care.

Judges’ comments

‘The CML Quality of Life Tracker’ was a really smart, well-written campaign with strong evaluation and good patient involvement. There was clear evidence on patient need and it offered a strong case for bespoke QOL trackers. It was an ambitious campaign that was clearly effective. The judges look forward to seeing it develop.
