Afsaneh Khetrapal

ApotheCom, Inizio Medical

Summary of work

Affie is constantly working at the point where evidence becomes strategy, redefining medical writing as a discipline that shapes organisational direction and inspires measurable healthcare impact.

Inspired by her past Communique award for Early Career Achiever and Corporate Engagement award for pro-bono work, she has continued to reshape how medical writing is structured, scaled and strategically positioned within her organisation. Her pro-bono collaborations with Young Roots and Lightyear Foundation, including development of AI-enabled content to clarify UK GP registration, catalysed a broader rethinking of how communication can drive inclusive, system-level impact.

Her leadership advances Inizio’s Conscious Change 2030 ambition to embed critical thinking, inclusion, and measurable impact into how the organisation operates. Building on this foundation, she conceived and authored the Impactful Publication Framework to address a confidence gap among publication colleagues, translating fragmented reporting standards into an evidence-ranked structure that embeds design for impact throughout development. In parallel, she authored a strategic proposal positioning women’s health as a defined organisational priority, securing 100% senior leadership approval and contributing to a newly converted account projected to generate £1.7m in 2026.

Affie demonstrates that medical writers do not simply communicate evidence; they determine how it influences strategy, investment, and patient care.

Judges’ comments

It was fantastic to see Afsaneh as a writer embracing the importance of inclusive science. She is clearly talented and able to utilise evidence to make strong business cases. She's clearly driving the writing function forward at her current agency and has some great proof points that made her year last year a great one.
