COSMOS: Empowering MS Healthcare Leaders for Lasting Impact
by 90TEN, part of Envision Pharma Group for Novartis
Summary of work
The UK’s MS services face a crisis marked by escalating caseloads, severe staffing shortages, leading to compromised patient care quality. By empowering future leaders in neurology with essential leadership and management skills to help navigate this crisis, COMSOS aims to raise the standard of MS services across the UK.
Co-created with MS organisations and clinical leaders, the programme is aimed at future MS leaders committed to driving change. The programme supports them to advance their knowledge, focus on improving clinical service design and optimisation, and familiarise themselves with new approaches to support working collaboratively across MS Services.
Positive feedback underscores the programme’s value in knowledge acquisition and networking, with tangible outcomes such as approved business cases demonstrating impact. Ahead of schedule the programme is already exceeding expectations, with the submission of 4 service improvement plans.
COSMOS is an invaluable initiative in advancing MS care, equipping HCPs to navigate service management challenges. With continued support, it promises sustained improvements in MS services nationwide, benefiting patients living with MS across the UK.
Judges’ comments
This entry clearly identified an unmet need, upskilling HCPs on how to get better services to patients. It was well-defined with a solid implementation and had strong outcomes. It stood out in respect of three things: use of behavioural since; structure; ability to network is considerably limited, so they did all they could to amplify networking opportunities.
