Gilead CommUnity HIVision 2024: Global Knowledge Exchange

by 67health on behalf of Gilead Sciences

Summary of work

Despite a declining trajectory of new HIV acquisitions and AIDS-related deaths, the world is not on track to meet globally agreed UNAIDS targets to end HIV/AIDS by 2030. Feedback from the community highlighted the need to ‘bring back the urgency in HIV’ on a global scale and focus on educating, instilling confidence and empowering a new generation of HIV advocates and grassroots organisations. The inaugural Gilead CommUnity HIVision provided an in-person platform for knowledge exchange between community members on an unprecedented global scale. This two-day educational event, which took place on 20-21 November 2024 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, brought together almost 140 HIV community attendees from more than 35 countries. The diversity of participants across 6 continents, representing different community groups, ages, and lived experiences, led to rich discussion and was praised by attendees and speakers alike. The average confidence rating of community representatives increased by 20% across all key areas measured. Qualitative feedback received during and after the event further emphasised how CommUnity HIVision achieved its primary goal of equipping attendees with greater self-assurance, which should ultimately improve access to care, health literacy, and public/individual health outcomes in HIV.

Judges’ comments

The “Gilead CommUnity HIVision 2024” set a high bar. It was really well put together with a strong reach and supports communities. There is still so much work to be done in this area, and the fact that they are showing that they want to keep it in peoples minds was recognised. The drive and ambition was huge.
