COPD Spotlight Roadshow: Targeted Education to Elevate Regional Standards of Care

by Havas Life London on behalf of Sanofi

Summary of work

The COPD SPOTLIGHT medical education programme was designed to elevate Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) standards of care in the UK —a condition affecting around 3 million people, leading to approximately 130,000 hospital admissions annually. The COPD SPOTLIGHT Roadshow was a key pillar that aimed to deliver SPOTLIGHT’s objectives of promoting a proactive, individualised approach to management and addressing local and regional challenges in COPD. The SPOTLIGHT-branded bus toured six UK cities with the highest COPD prevalence, delivering expert-led educational meetings tailored to local needs. Sessions featured regionally relevant content presented by leading physicians and covered critical topics, including COPD phenotypes and endotypes, local care provision, and insights from Asthma + Lung UK. The initiative concluded with a dedicated medical stand at the 2024 Summer BTS Congress. The roadshow successfully engaged nearly 200 HCPs, equipping them with practical knowledge to enhance patient care. Additionally, the SPOTLIGHT-branded bus generated ~1.7 million public impressions, raising broader awareness of COPD’s impact. By facilitating regional discussions, sharing best practice, and fostering policy advocacy, the SPOTLIGHT initiative has laid the groundwork for long-term improvements in COPD management. Insights gathered from the programme will shape future initiatives and contribute to COPD policy recommendations.

Judges’ comments

The COPD Spotlight Roadshow is a fantastic execution of a national programme. It has amongst the strongest objectives seen in an entry. The judges loved the patient-centricity, utilising Asthma and Lung UK and how it also involved the policy makers so that change could happen following an early engagement. It also seems to have been a huge success in terms of its outputs and outcomes.
