‘Finding the Right Molecule’ – the discovery of dabigatran etexilate

by OgilvyHealthPR for Boehringer Ingelheim

Summary of work

The development of dabigatran etexilate was a milestone in medical history, an innovation that could fundamentally change stroke prevention. Over twenty years of extensive scientific research had come to fruition – it was time for physicians to understand the molecule’s potential and to recognise Boehringer Ingelheim as a leader in drug development.

R&D is often considered a complex and highly controlled world, filled with confidentiality and technical jargon. Boehringer Ingelheim wanted to change this perception, throw open their doors and tell their fascinating story in an accessible way to inspire physicians to engage with R&D and expose the innovative processes that lead to drug discovery. With the support of renowned medical writer Dr. Susan Mayor, ‘Finding the right molecule’ was created. Combining captivating imagery with inspirational personal testimonies, the book epitomised the excitement of the physician community and demonstrated the tireless determination and commitment of the Boehringer Ingelheim Drug Development Team.
