Ready, SLIT, Go – Embedding a Shared Care Approach to Improve Equity of Access in Allergic Rhinitis

by Curious Health Communications for ALK-Abello

Summary of work

‘Ready, SLIT, Go!’ was a national sponsored symposium delivered at the BSACI Annual Conference. It was designed to accelerate equitable access to sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) for allergic rhinitis, following NICE approvals for two SLIT medicines and continued local variation in formulary classification. The programme addressed three needs: earlier identification of moderate–severe allergic rhinitis and SLIT candidates; stronger understanding of the role that SLIT plays across care settings; and improved capability to navigate formulary pathways and advocate for shared‑care access. The symposium attracted 289 attendees (vs a target of >158), from primary and secondary care, including GPs/GPwERs, allergists/immunologists, clinical nurse specialists, allied health professionals and ICS decision‑makers. The interactive design used case studies, live Slido polling and an extended expert panel Q&A. Immediate learning impact was demonstrated by a rise in the proportion of participants who felt “very confident” in identifying SLIT candidates. Early post‑event follow‑up indicated positive engagement: 100% of surveyed KAMs reported positive stakeholder conversations that were influenced by the symposium, with meetings and discussions spanning secondary care, payers/ICS representatives and primary care. In the three months following the symposium, there was a 67% increase in formulary inclusion for the SLIT portfolio.

Judges’ comments

‘Ready, SLIT, Go’ was an impressive entry that was very well executed. It answered the commercial brief with a clear set of commercial objectives that made it easy to judge. The judges were impressed by the outcomes and the data and, even though it had a low budget for a symposium, it still showed measured outcomes.
