GPAW 2023: Improving Patient Outcomes for People Living with Pain

by Langland with SaySo Medical for Haleon

Summary of work

Global Pain Awareness Week (GPAW) is an enduring, non-promotional, educational programme developed by experts, for experts, now moving into its fourth year. It is a recognisable event in the pain community’s calendar providing relevant, meaningful and in-demand content to HCPs to benefit patients. 2022/23 global market research exploring the impact of pain on individuals’ everyday lives, emotions and behaviours highlighted a patient–care gap and need to change HCP behaviour to provide intersectional and representative care worldwide, starting with education addressing individual pain experiences and bias. Paired with an HCP-reported demand for education via virtual events, the evolved 4-day webinar’ series format of GPAW 2023 was deemed crucial for connecting specialists internationally, sharing evidence and providing latest data and practical support to implement and optimise outcomes for people living with pain. Ultimately, the aim for GPAW23 was to positively impact patient experience by educating physicians. Compared with GPAW22, live GPAW23 attendance more than doubled (from 13,037 to 28,231) with a reported >2.3 million patients worldwide potentially benefitting from GPAW23. Accomplished through relevant panel-discussions and presentations from 8 multinational, multidisciplinary pain specialists, broadcasting in five languages, support for local group-viewing parties, and embedding the platform in Haleon’s online HCP portal.
