Long-term Success: Co-creating the Future of HIV

by Langland for Gilead Sciences Europe

Summary of work

Treatment of HIV has progressed significantly over the last 30 years, leading to more people with HIV (PWH) living longer lives. With this progress comes different challenges and all stakeholders involved in HIV care agree there is a need to shift focus beyond treatment goals related to survival and viral suppression, to broader aspects of quality-of-life and well-being for PWH. We partnered with Gilead Sciences and an expert panel comprised of selected PWH and advocacy groups, global healthcare experts and healthcare professionals to co-create a framework that supports the vision of every person with HIV being able to live their best life. The framework consists of five key pillars that come together to achieve this goal - sustained undetectable viral load, the minimal impact of treatment and clinical monitoring, optimised health-related quality of life, lifelong integration of healthcare, and freedom from stigma and discrimination. The framework was published in an open-access HIV Medicine Supplement in March 2023, supported by a suite of materials leveraging paid, owned, and earned channels and has since been independently presented at the opening ceremony of the European AIDS Conference (EACS), demonstrating the importance and relevance of this work to the HIV community.
