Being Bella: A Patient-Centric Approach to Clinical Trial Investigator Engagement

by Langland for Roche

Summary of work

Delays in clinical trials result in £7 million/day in lost revenue. Multiple strategies are employed by pharmaceutical companies to drive timelines with study team engagement being a key priority.

B-SHUTTLE is a Phase 1 study facing specific challenges around identifying eligible populations and potential hesitancy from participants and investigators. Expert insight highlighted that the relationship with the potential participant is the most important factor, therefore we established a new approach creating an engaging meeting storyarc centred around the patient journey, Bella.

The meetings were focused on optimising every step of Bella's journey so that the important protocol updates could be considered in real-life situations. The meetings were structured with a mixture of formats to maintain energy and engagement – including keynote presentations, group discussion and country-led stories to provide real-time experiences.

Outcomes demonstrated an engaged, confident and prepared community committed to driving site activation and participant identification. 100% of respondents understood the recent protocol updates for B-SHUTTLE and felt confident in implementing the protocol updates in their clinic, as well as 90% agreeing that they have the tools and resources needed to recruit potential participants. The global study lead at Roche stated, "Langland delivered my 'dream' investigator meeting journey!”.
