See Your Hands: Improving Hand Hygiene in Healthcare Settings
Summary of work
FleishmanHillard Fishburn (FHF) was appointed by the World Health Organization (WHO) to work on its 2016 hand hygiene campaign in the wake of the 2014 Ebola outbreak and the formation of its new Infection Prevention and Control Unit in 2015.
The campaign had been running successfully since 2009, but needed a fresh injection of creativity to reinforce the critical hand hygiene message among health workers. Working in close collaboration, WHO and FHF conceptualised the 2016 campaign theme as ‘See Your Hands’, showing a hand with an eye to remind health workers to notice their hands and ensure they are clean when in contact with patients.
Having confirmed this was culturally appropriate, FHF developed a strong, iconic branding solution using a distinctive distressed graphical style. This was applied across a multifaceted, multilingual campaign comprising a range of resources which were distributed around the globe. WHO deemed the 2016 campaign to be the most successful since 2009, reaching 176 countries and over 18,500 healthcare facilities.
See your Hands is a very solid global campaign, which was built around a simple premise. The judges believe there’s longevity in this work. The entry fitted this category like a glove (no pun intended!). It had great stakeholder quotes.
