Beneath the Surface – A Hologram Body Composition Experience
Summary of work
Obesity management is frequently framed around the metric of weight loss achieved. However, evidence highlights that the composition of weight loss, specifically changes in fat mass and lean mass, are clinically meaningful.
At major metabolic congresses, discussions often focus on total percent weight reduction without visually contextualizing how visceral adipose tissue and skeletal muscle mass shift during weight loss. To address this gap, we developed a UK biobank data-driven proto-hologram body composition experience, called Beneath The Surface, that enabled healthcare professionals to explore weight loss in three dimensions.
HCPs interacted with a 3D-rendered adult male with obesity inside a proto hologram box, adjusting total weight loss and manipulating the proportion of fat mass versus lean mass reduction. The model visually responded to user input in real time, as users adjusted the controls the 3D models representing lean mass vs fat mass recalibrated simultaneously.
The experience culminated in a central message: there is more to weight loss than meets the eye, shifting the congress conversation from quantity of weight lost to quality of weight loss.
Judges’ comments
The creative was great in this entry from Nucleus Global and Regeneron, in a really crowded market. It had good engagement metrics and was visually striking.
