Hepatology 360: Collaboration and Learning in Hepatology
Summary of work
In September 2011, an International Steering Committee reviewed the current provision of medical education within the global hepatology community and identified educational need within emerging markets. In response, Hepatology 360, an international, expert-led initiative was created to foster excellence in clinical practice and research for healthcare professionals treating liver disease. In 2012, more than 2000 healthcare professionals from emerging markets participated in central and regional educational events and engaged in additional resources, including a web platform and awards programme. The effect of the educational programmes on changing practice among participants as well as exceptional feedback from the broader Hepatology 360 community have demonstrated the initiative’s tangible benefit to real-world patient care.
Judges’ comments
An impressive and truly 360 degree programme, showing clear determination to make a difference in practice and create the framework for change to take place - it ticked all the boxes. We thought it was thorough and comprehensive in approach, tackling an important issue and then, even more importantly, demonstrating clear behavioural changes.
