Tackling the Education Gap for Endocrine Specialist Nurses

by Virgo Health for Ipsen

Summary of work

Neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) and acromegaly are rare conditions that require specialist and holistic patient management. Specialist nurses are central to the delivery of care, patient support and education on disease management for both conditions. However, a lack of available nurses and NETs-specific training means there is a need for education in NETs nursing. Patients with acromegaly often lack education on their condition, with nurses being key in providing this. Mental health in nursing is also a significant issue, with many nurses reporting feelings of burnout and work-related stress. To address these needs Ipsen UK developed Ipsen Educational Exchange (IEE)—an educational meeting for nurses working in NETs and acromegaly. The aim of this meeting was to provide specialist education and well-being techniques to support nurses, helping them feel more equipped to provide patient care. IEE was so well received that it saw a third more attendees than anticipated and received excellent feedback, with 100% of attendees rating the meeting very good or excellent and an NPS of 83. The education provided was so valued by attendees that two subsequent virtual meetings were created in 2022 to deliver further education, at attendee request. Ipsen is now working to deliver IEE 2023.
