Fifty Over 50: Growing Older with HIV
Summary of work
Fifty Over 50 is a unique listening project that set out to hear from people who are growing older with HIV. The vision for the project was to seek meaningful, qualitative accounts of patient experience, to add to the body of evidence and existing insights on HIV and ageing.
At the heart of Fifty Over 50 is the creation of an online and printed book featuring the reflections from people growing older with HIV in the UK, alongside a policy declaration identifying the key themes highlighted, setting out a vision for change.
The book was shared digitally via social media channels as part of a broader communications campaign and then later launched in Parliament. We wanted to show people living with HIV, healthcare professionals, policymakers and the public, the challenges people face, improve understanding about the changes needed to deliver better quality of life for people growing older with HIV and reduce stigma.
The hope is these insights will continue to bring us one step closer to building a true picture of what it’s like to live and age with HIV and achieve the best possible care for every person living with HIV in the UK.
